Finally, the second installment of G & J Get Some…. G has a life and what not, so it’s very hard to actually make these get togethers happen. I’ll say, Hey, I’m free every night this week, are you around?, and he’ll get back to me a week later, the bastard.
Anyway, on our first outing, we got soul food. This time, we got beers, chicken wings, and burgers. We went to Bonnie’s Grill in Park Slope, Brooklyn. This is a great little diner on 5th Ave. between 1st. St. and Garfield. We sat at a table, but this is a cool place to sit on the barstools and watch a ball game.
It was great to drink down some beers and just talk about life and shit. I don’t use that turn of phrase lightly — there are very few people in this world, past or present, that I converse with on that "life and shit" level. But with G, the statement holds true. As is often the case, it was that way from the very beginning, despite the ridiculous hat he happened to be wearing the very first time I met him.
The chicken wings are some of the best I’ve had in New York. I got all tough guy and brazenly said I wanted them "hot," and, well, I should know my place. I couldn’t take the heat. But I kept trying, because the wings were so damn good.
I got the veggie burger. Delish. I especially liked the peppers and pickles.
G seems a bit glum in the picture below, but I think it’s actually just capturing how he was feeling about me taking picture after picture of our dining experience.
This picture pretty much sums it all up. Good beer, good food, good life and shit conversation. We definitely got some.
