I can’t believe that in the 8 years that I have been in New York that I have never been to the Red Hook Soccer Fields to eat the most delicious Latin food ever. All my complaints about not finding good Mexican food here in NYC, it was thrown back in my face last weekend, thrown back in my face hard, and I deserved the wallop. Now I plan to make up for lost time by going every weekend and feasting to the point of passing out. The food is that good. Huaraches, tamales, arepas, ceviches, grilled corn, fruit juices and more. Heaven. Absolute heaven. Can’t say enough about the food and the vendors and the atmosphere and again I kick myself for waiting so long to check it out. Over the past few months the vendors serving the food have come under scrutiny by the meddling NYC Dept. of Health. I’ve been following the story over at The Porkchop Express, run by J. Slab. Apparently things are looking good, and thank goodness for that. Big shout out to The Porkchop Express, for the coverage of the current situation, and for all the great information about the food at Red Hook Soccer Fields in general. All very helpful.
Below are some pictures from our afternoon at the fields last Saturday. For directions, use The Porkchop Express’s helpful details.
Tip: bring some plastic containers, so you can take home your leftovers. The servings are that big.
An "on second thought" tip: Fuck the containers. Just shovel it down. And then, before you leave, try at least one more thing.

Ahhh, that looks good. Between all the press that’s been happening, the profile by Anthony Bourdain on “No Reservations,” and now your post, I’m dying to go check it out.
