Trailer for the independent film Breaking Upwards. Great story in the NY Times about the making of the movie.

“Everything I Own” – Vanessa Hudgens, from the movie Bandslam. Yes, I liked the movie very much. Don’t let the movie poster, or thoughts of High School Musical, scare you away. Got curious about this film after reading this. Glad I checked it out.
This song is a rush, with a beat that pushes, but there’s also a very floaty, dreamy quality to the tune. Good for long strides on a sunny day.
Hampton Sides discusses his new book, Hellhound On His Trail: The Stalking of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the International Hunt for His Assassin.
Great round-up at io9.com on the what the cast members from Battlestar Galactica are up to, one year after the show ended. Wonderful to see that they all seem to be working on some cool projects. I still miss the show, but Caprica and Stargate Universe are helping to fill the void. I’m assuming that most BSG fans have tuned in to Caprica, but it’s possible that Stargate Universe is still undiscovered. I highly recommend checking it out. The second part of Season 1 (or season 1.5) just started on Friday, April 2.
So much is happening in the world of books. The transition to digital is in full swing. How we actually read books is changing. Most of this is good, because the old ways are not going to go away. The end result will be more options – in how we read, what we’ll have access to, how we’ll find things. But there are aspects to the change that are not so cut and dry — conflicting interests and a hazy long-term view make it difficult to fully understand exactly what it will mean not just right now, but in the future, for the various parties involved – writers, publishers, and readers. The Google Book Settlement is an example of this. It is definitely something everyone should understand — I thought this article posted at io9 by Annalee Newitz did a great job of exploring some of the major issues on the table with regard to the settlement — 5 Ways The Google Book Settlement Will Change The Future of Reading.
