Kathy Cano Murillo, the Crafty Chica indeed, now has a web show on LifetimeTV.com — Crafting With the Chica. New webisodes appear each Wednesday. Congratulations to Kathy on the new show, and for continuing to find new ways to expand and enrich the craft community.

Be sure to check out WhipUp.net’s new look, the new features, and the new forum. The site has always been great, and it just keeps on getting better — lots of ideas and sharing and community. A big shout out to Kath Red and all the site contributors for their continued efforts to whip up even more craft and creativity.

I know Melba McMullin has been tirelessly working on putting this together for over a year — The Creative Bazaar, which will feature over 35 artists selling their creations. The event is happening from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Four Points by Sheraton Cape Cod (35 Scudder Ave., Hyannis, MA). Be sure to check out The Storque, Etsy’s excellent new ezine. This is the place to come for all your Etsy news, features, and events info, as well as a place to read contributions from the Etsy community — reviews, articles, how-tos and more. Also, speaking of events at Etsy — Spins and Needles will be throwing a crafting party at the Etsy Labs this Friday, Sept. 14. Price of admission is $5, and that covers your crafting supplies AND beer. You can read more about Spins and Needles, which throws events that mix diy project-making with music spun by DJs, here.

A couple months back Etsy had put out a call to Etsy Artists for art to hang on an empty wall at Etsy Labs. Here’s the wall, as of early August. The good news is there is still plenty of wall space, so the Etsy Labs Wall Project is now an ongoing venture. You can continue to send in your work under the original guidelines.

Whip Up is now taking article and tutorial submissions. Read the site manifesto here, and be sure to read the guidelines carefully. I’ve been a longtime fan of Whip Up, so it is exciting to see the site continue to grow. It keeps getting better and better.

Enter the 3rd Annual Venus Zine Craft-Off Contest. The object is to come up with "the best, most creative, most fantabulous DIY creations imaginable… for less than $50." Your entry will include both photographs of your project and a set instructions on how to assemble it. Full details are here. The deadline is Sept. 20, 2007, and the winners will be featured in the 2007-08 winter issue of Venus Zine.

Poppytalk is a fantastic design blog that features all manner of excellent creations, from handcraft to photography, letterpress to interior design. Also presented are cool features like the “Etsy Pick of the Day” and the “Affordable Art Guide.” The overall goal Poppytalk is to inspire and to promote the work of emerging design talent. Worth checking out regularly, for exacly that, to get some inspiration and to discover the work of new talent.

Indie Fixx is an excellent site run by Jen Wallace that focuses on the indie design movement. Be sure to check out the site’s guides for Summer and Weddings. Jen also runs Tilting Swiftly, where she sells her own handcrafted designs, as well as these other fantastic sites: The Crafty World and Tickle Fancy.
